Still have the project? Remove the captions in CapCut
CapCut keeps captions as their own layer until you export. Open the project, select the caption clips on the timeline, delete them and export again. This is free and gives a perfect result, so try it first.
Once a video is exported, the captions are part of every frame. Closing the project, using a template someone else made, or getting the clip from a client or collaborator usually means you only have that exported file. That is where Wipe AI comes in.
How Wipe AI removes burned-in CapCut captions
- Upload the exported video. MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI and MKV are accepted.
- Keep Automatic mode on. AI reads every frame and finds the caption words, even when they change every second.
- Check the preview, then process the full video. Only the pixels of the words are rebuilt; the rest of the frame is untouched.
CapCut caption styles and how they come out
- Word-by-word highlight captions (one word lights up as it is spoken): handled like normal captions, since the AI looks at each frame on its own.
- Thick outline and drop shadow: the outline is part of the text and is removed with it.
- Captions on a colored box or bubble: on a computer or tablet, switch to Manual and draw a box over the whole bubble. Everything inside a Manual box is rebuilt, so the bubble goes too.
- Emoji next to the words: include them in your box in Manual mode if Automatic leaves them behind.
- Big captions in the middle of the frame: they often cover faces and hands. The rebuilt area can look a little soft there, so watch those seconds in the preview.
Re-captioning after removal
A common reason to remove CapCut captions is to replace them: a new language, a different style, or fixing a typo in the auto captions. Remove the old captions here, import the clean video back into CapCut, and run auto captions again on a clean picture. New captions no longer sit on top of the old ones.
